Common Myths About Remodeling Your Kitchen

As one of the biggest spaces in our homes, kitchens carry a lot of importance in our lives. Whether gathering for meals or building a school project on the countertop, the materials you choose must stand the test of time – and that can be an intimidating thought when deciding on a kitchen remodel.

We’ve compiled a few of the most common myths surrounding kitchen remodels, and we’re setting the record straight.

Myth: A kitchen remodel is way out of my budget.

Truth: Not every remodel has to be top to bottom, down to the studs. While that is an option for some homeowners, you would be amazed at what quality materials are available at a reasonable price point, or what a difference one or two small projects can make in your kitchen. It’s not always financially (or structurally!) possible to remove walls or reconfigure your kitchen set-up, but it may be feasible to replace an older appliance with a newer model, update your cabinetry, add a backsplash or install new countertops.

You never know until you ask, so it may be worth bringing a professional into your home to build a quote for various projects that will pack a real punch without draining your savings.

Myth: Everything happens quickly.

Truth: Good things take time! Just like with the meals you’ll prepare in your updated kitchen, you can’t skip the prep work. Your design and build team must order any necessary materials, apply for any required permits, and consult with you to ensure every box has been checked and every detail thought of. Having a skilled team manage your project may require more planning and time on the front end, but it will result in an overall more efficient project that stays on budget.

Trust us – it will be worth the wait!

Myth: My kitchen design must follow current trends.

Truth: Remember those satin, poofy bridesmaids’ dresses we see in every 80s wedding photo? Those were on trend once, too. If there is a current kitchen style you are in love with, then by all means include these aspects into your design. However, it is far more important to incorporate materials and features that fit your family’s needs and a design you’ll be happy with for years to come. Ask yourself if the style you’re considering matches the rest of the house, or if it is arranged for an efficient flow.

Many design-build companies, including Fox Home Innovations, have an in-house design team with professionals who can listen to your ideas and goals and turn them into kitchen features you will love for years to come.

Myth: Remodeling a kitchen can be a DIY project.

Truth: Unless you are a skilled handyman (or handywoman), there are some jobs that should be left to professionals, both for the sake of safety as well as satisfaction. If you’re looking to tackle a small job, such as painting a wall or swapping out hardware, there may be room for some DIY exploration (just take your time and don’t be afraid to call for reinforcements!). However, anything more complex typically requires professional expertise, from electric work to cabinet installation.

The experts at Fox Home Innovations are a great place to start to bust these myths and more. Whether you have a few exploratory questions or are ready for a custom quote, give us a call or visit our website. We have the answers you need – and that’s another truth you can count on.
